Microsoft has announced an update to their new operating system windows 8.Codenamed as windows blue.Windows 8.1 is more than a updates and include major changes.

DESK TOP MODE
With this update, users can launch the Operating System in desktop mode, which resembles the same set up as the older versions. The Operating system’s start screen features various tiles which could be rearranged easily. Windows 8.1 now comes with more colors and backgrounds for the start screen and users can also choose desktop background as Start screen background.
START BUTTON
The start button was not found in the Windows 8 version of the OS and we wondered where it went off. But the new version is believed to have it on the screen and when clicked, you would find the start screen appearing with the wallpapers behind it, making the modern user interface more like an overlay.
BING NEW SEARCH
Windows 8.1 is using Microsoft’s Bing search technology. As in the case with the previous version, users could find the search bar from the right side of a display screen. Instead of searching for files or apps in the form of categories, Windows 8.1 allows the possibility to search about anything on the computer or the Web in a single go!
Leblond, the Head of Windows Program Management says, “We think this will really change the way you interact with the web and with Windows making it quicker and easier to get things done. It is the modern version of the command line! Results from local files, apps and settings are easily accessed in the same convenient view by scrolling to the left.”
SKYDRIVE

To save your photos, files and important documents, Windows 8.1 provides you with a built in connection to Microsoft’s online storage system, SkyDrive.
Files can be saved directly here and even when offline, the SkyDrive app will get a new update so that files are made available to users.
INTERNET EXPLORER 11

The new OS will present its users with Internet Explorer 11. With better performance this time, users can find faster page load times and several other new features to enjoy with.  Leblond gives an example that one can adjust the appearance of modern IE11, to always show the address bar and have as many open tabs as you like.

PHOTOFRAME ON DESKTOP
The new version features a lock-up screen that will display a slideshow of a user’s favourite pictures.
You can turn on your PC or tablet into a picture frame by making your Lock screen a slide show of your pictures. This could either be done locally on the device or photos from Microsoft SkyDrive. There is a feature to take pictures with built-in camera right from the Lock screen without having to log in.
FASTER INTERFACE
Users can now find it easier to move apps on the start screen and change the size of each app on screen file.
One can now select multiple apps all at once, resize them, uninstall and rearrange them. Just by swiping on a button, you can view all apps and they can also be filtered according to name, date installed, most used or by category.
RUN 2 APPS SIMULTANIOUSLY
Windows 8 allowed people to run two apps side by side, but it was more limited on how one could configure the screen. Windows 8.1 offers users more options to determine how much of the screen each app occupies while showing up to four different programs.
OUTLOOK APP
The Outlook email app comes for free with a light weight version of Windows, called Windows RT made for tablets such as Microsoft’s Surface.
