It came as no surprise that the New Nexus 7 was unveiled thanks to the huge amount of leaked information prior to the Google event. The Android maker has again teamed up with Asus to produce what will be commonly known as the Nexus 7 2.

In the US the Nexus 7 will start at $229 which is $30 more than its predecessor. In which case, we expect the price in the UK to start at £179 compared to £159 (we're waiting for confirmation on this). It will take on tablets including the iPad mini and Kindle Fire HD.
It will launch on 30 July in the US and various other markets, including the UK, in the coming weeks.
If you were hoping for Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie then you'll be disappointed. The Nexus 7 2 comes pre-loaded with version 4.3 of Jelly Bean instead.
This version of Google's mobile operating system brings a few changes including restricted profiles (great for kids accounts), Bluetooth Smart (aka low energy) and OpenGL ES 3.0 support (improved graphics). Other minor tweaks include faster account switching, easier text input and background Wi-Fi location.
The orignal Nexus 7, Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus will get Android 4.3 starting today.
Design-wise the new Nexus 7 looks much like the original but with a thinner and lighter chassis – 2mm and 50g trimmer. It also comes in black rather than brown but with the same soft touch.
As the name suggests, it still has a 7in IPS screen but the resolution has been increased to 1200x1920 meaning a pixel density of 323ppi. That's better than the impressive Nexus 10 and makes it the world's highest resolution 7in tablet.

The new Nexus 7 is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 2GB of RAM giving 80 percent extra power and four times the graphical performance. Once again, it comes with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.
A 1.2Mp front facing camera is now accompanied by a 5Mp rear camera. Other specs include Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, dual-stereo speakers (with virtual surround sound) and a notification LED which wasn't there before.
There's also wireless charging and one extra hour of battery life compared to the original Nexus 7. Google will also ship a 4G LTE version.
