The Xbox One, just like the Sony PlayStation 4, will run on an SoC using the AMD Jaguar platform. The Xbox One architecture makes all the seamless integration possible. You can also control your TV without having to change the HDMI in/out ports.

AMD Jaguar based 1.6 GHz Octa Core CPU
8 GB shared DDR3 RAM
500 GB HDD
Blu-ray Drive
802.11n Wireless with Wi-Fi Direct
800 MHz DirectX 11.1 capable GPU
HDMI in/out
USB 3.0
Coming to the memory bandwidth, the Xbox One has got 68GB/sec of main memory i.e., 8GB DDR 3, 102GB/sec of bandwidth to the embedded SRAM, while the remaining 30GB/sec is probably spread between the CPU and GPU peripherals such as gamepads, cable TV and Kinect. While on the other hand, Sony PS4 has 176GB/sec of main memory (8GB GDDR5) bandwidth. So, you won’t probably find a real-world difference between the two.

The Xbox One supports 1080p display and 7.1 surround sound. The Kinect contains 2,50,000 pixel infrared depth sensor as well as a regular webcam with 720p.

Xbox One Software

According to Microsft, the Xbox One console runs on three different operating systems. The core OS which is based on Microsoft’s Hyper-V hypervisor technology boots up simply when you turn the console on. This hypervisor then activates the other two operating systems; Xbox OS runs the games while the Windows-based OS runs the apps such as Skype, TV etc…

Both these operating systems run side-by-side while the hardware is virtualized by the hypervisor. The Xbox OS is restarted everytime when you load a new game while the Windows-based OS will remain persistent until the console is turned off.
